Although there were a number of great heavyweights actively competing in NZ, no one had stepped up and assumed the level of dominance that the 'Psycho' Suttie once had over the weight class. With no clear successor emerging to take his place it begged the question - 'who reigns when the King is gone?' It's something that intrigued Jason as much as anyone - so much so that he decided find the answer himself by staging the King of the Ring event.

28th May 2011 saw 8 of NZ's top heavyweights face off in an explosive tournament that crowned the new heavyweight King of the Ring. With an exciting mix of established fighters and rising stars of the future in the electric atmosphere of a K-1 style 8 man tournament it was the highlight of the fight sport year. The tournament format required the winner to defeat 3 opponents in a single night and provides the ultimate test of both skill and endurance.

With the inaugural event being so popular, the 'Psycho' decided to give the Middleweight division their turn in the spotlight and set out to find the top eight fighters in the weight class from all over New Zealand - and so was born King of the Ring MAX (Middleweight Action Xtreme).

Once a King of the Ring has been crowned, Jason 'Psycho' Suttie then goes forth to find an international World Title match up, for the King, on the next event.

With capacity crowds at both 2011 events, the King of the Ring 8 man series has stamped it's mark on the New Zealand fight scene and is set to expand to the Lightweight and Super Heavyweight divisions in 2012, further boosting the profile of New Zealand fighters on the international stage.

8 men. Only one will be King.
